How to save $500 on your moving service this year!
#1 Get Organized, you can’t expect the movers to organize your apartment. To streamline the process, stage items in an easy access area. All boxes should be labeled for the destination room they need to go into. Pro tip, to complete the move even more quickly, let the movers know of a staging area at the new place that all the small items can go, to cut down on movers looking for a specific home for items.
#2 Everything that can be put in a box, should be put in a box. Obviously your 6’ tall floor lamp will not fit in a box but the 8 small framed art in your living room can be consolidated into a few boxes. The goal is to make less trips for the movers. Additional points if all boxes can be dollied.
#3 Preparing your TV– Movers can bring a boxes for your TV’s but in the effort of efficiency, you can take most TV’s off the wall mount, take the mount off the wall and you will have save the movers 2 steps and you will have save yourself money by doing so too
#4 Do you have a home office? Any desks which cannot fit out of the door can take the movers an additional 30 minutes to disassemble and then reassemble at the new place. If you have a DIY spirit, you can likely have your desk disassembled and ready to be mover prior to the movers arrival
#5 If you have small mirrors, computer monitors, glass vases that you do not want to box, you can easily load those in your car prior to the movers arrival. Unlike a well packed box, these items would need extra prep work to make it safe for the movers to transport, additionally, the movers will need to seek out a super safe place on the truck for these fragile items. #6 Request A Speed Pac Box – This is a special tool for the movers which allows them to cut down on extra trips to the truck. A Speed Pac Box is oversized which can be filled quickly with all leftover small and unpackable items. It’s just narrow enough to fit through a doorway but packs enough space to load a full closet. Not all movers carry these but they are vital to efficiency on apartment moves.
#7 Your complex elevator – You must reserve your elevator ahead of time. Apartment complexes limit time on the elevator. Coordinated with your movers as well as the office to ensure you have enough time to complete the move. You do not want your movers having to take the stairs or be standing near the busy elevator because you were not able to reserve it
